Carolina Cruz-Neira, Ph.D. is director of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock’s George W. Donaghey Emerging Analytics Center, and is recognized as one of the greatest virtual reality innovators. The gaming website Polygon named Cruz-Neira as one of the top 25 virtual reality innovators for her work on the CAVE (Cave Automatic Virtual Environment), a back-projected virtual reality room. Additionally, University Herald named Cruz-Neira as one of the three greatest female innovators in virtual reality.
Cruz-Neira received a Ph.D. in 1995 and a master’s degree in 1991, both in electrical engineering and computer science from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Cruz-Neira’s research areas include large data visualization, data analytics, training environments, software architectures for visualization and virtual reality, technology development, and modeling and simulation. Two talk titles that she has given include Virtual Reality Beyond Games: A Universal Tool of the Trade (TEDx) and A Digital Wonderland: Virtual Reality Applications for Everybody (Johns Hopkins).
