Russian multimillionaire, Dmitry Itskov, is convinced he will live forever. Itskov is the current leader of the 2045 Initiative that has the goal of achieving human immorality. Itskov is convinced that within the next 3 decades, human immortality will be achieved.
“By 2045, his manifesto maintains, we’ll have “substance-independent minds” housed in non-biological bodies. . . Though his endeavor immediately conjures up visions of robotic humanoids and artificial organs, Itskov is most concerned with how immortality will reshape the mind.”
Itskov has already begun the process of fundraising from billionaires around the world. He spends one week per month at home working on his project, followed by 3 weeks of traveling to promote and raise money to achieve immortality. His plan is as follows:
“The 2045 project has four projected phases, using a word you may have come to know from a certain James Cameron movie. In the Avatar A phase, which will run from 2015 to 2020, Itskov’s scientists will aim to create a robotic copy of a human body. In the Avatar B phase, they hope to transplant a human brain into a robot, something they say they plan to accomplish by 2025. In the next five years, they hope to do this with an artificial brain after copying the personality and memories of a person at the end of their life. In the final, Avatar D, phase, which will run from 2040 to 2045, they aim to create a hologram-like life form that would live forever.”
The project has the potential to change everything we know about the world today. Humans becoming “computerized” could soon be a reality, according to Itskov. He imagines a world with no biology, where “body service shops” will be used to self select individual body parts and organs.
Itskov himself has already started preparing for immortal life, with a very strict diet that rids his body of any outside toxins or chemicals. Whether or not the current technology exists for this type of project is yet to be seen. Itskov has been reaching out to billionaires exposing them to the idea of immortality, offering his final product to them for an undisclosed monetary amount. With the potential for social, cultural, physical, and emotional life to change in every way possible, this Russian multimillionaire should be closely followed in the years to come.
