I worked in a doctors office for a few summers in high school. When I was there, I worked mainly with the billing department, sorting files and answering phone calls. It was miserable. The amount of time spent sorting papers and making photo copies of medical records was absurd. For kids in my position now, however, the process has gotten infinitely easier.

The development and implementation of EMRs, or Electronic Medical Records, helps to contain the data of a practice’s patients in one simple database. An EMR contains all standard and clinical data in one place, and has made the medical field much more efficient.
A few benefits of this system include the ability to track records over time, identify patients who are due for a visit, and improve overall quality of care. I wish these EMRs were around when I was working…
