Technology can change the world we live in for the better. In my blog post two weeks ago, I talked about cyber crime and how people are using technology to break laws. For this week’s post, I would like to share how technology can be used to make our lives more interesting and convenient.
There is an app called Aurasma, an augmented reality platform developed in England. It is an application that can be downloaded onto a smartphone or tablet. The way it works is that the camera from a smartphone or tablet will capture images of whatever the user decides, and those pictures will trigger information that is stored about that particular product or location. For example, if a camera is pointed at a painting in an art gallery, the painting may come to life, and the subjects of the painting may start moving in the screen of your tablet or smartphone. In another example, if the camera is pointing at the Big Ben Clock Tower in London, an animated gorilla may be seen crawling on the large clock tower.
Various schools and businesses in the UK area are adding “auras” to their products to further enhance the experience of their students or customers. Anyone can add auras to whatever they want. Now that there is the possibility for us to live and interact with technology in this way, how does that change how we view the world? How we view the world now is influenced by different societies’ culture. How does the addition of technology influence culture? Technology is like a super power, and with great power comes great responsibility. When used in the right way, in a constructive way, can produce great results.
